Title
Quantum Physics with Emphasis on Photonic Quantum Computers and Quantum Simulators
Abstract
In this talk, a summary of my research interests will be given. Starting with the description of particle - antiparticle generation from the interaction of high intensity laser pulses with the quantum vacuum system, some significant numerical results regarding the particle production efficiency will be presented. On the second part of the talk newer experimental schemes for particle creation will be presented with emphasis on the production of muon and neutron beams and their applications.
About the Speaker
Ioannis Ploumistakis received a BSc degree from the Department of Physics, University of Crete, Greece. Following his studies, he completed his MSc thesis in the Department of Sciences, Technical University of Crete, Greece. The subject of his thesis was the interaction of high intensity and ultrashort duration laser pulses with vacuum for the creation of electron positron pairs. He completed his PhD studies at the Department of Production Engineering and Management, Technical University of Crete, Greece. His research topic was the creation of a laser based high energy electron beam that interacts with high intensity lasers producing particle antiparticle pairs. He also studied the case of muon creation from the interaction of solid targets with high intensity laser pulses and the possibility of using those muons as a catalyst on muon catalyzed fusion reaction of a D-T mixture.
