1st place worldwide in the 'Innovation' category at Brackeys Game Jam 2023.1 for ECE students

A team of students of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Technical University of Crete, e.g., Minas Katsiokalis (postgraduate student), Yiannis Kritikos (postgraduate student), Andreas Polychronakis (doctoral candiddate), Michalis Oikonomakis (undergraduate student), Konstantina Mammou (undergraduate student), Michalis Nikiforakis (undergraduate student), Anna Minadaki (undergraduate student) and George Protopapadakis (undergraduate student), members of the research team SURREAL of the MUSIC Laboratory specializing in computer graphics and XR technologies (http://surreal.tuc.gr),  took part in the  Brackeys Game Jam 2023.1 and were awarded  the 1st place worldwide in the 'Innovation' category among more than 3,900 teams and 742 projects.

Game Jams are competitions for creating innovative games in limited time, with the theme of the competition being announced at the start of the competition. Brackeys Game Jam 2023.1 is one of the most popular world-wide competitions which started in 2018 and is held twice a year since with both professional gaming studios and independent gaming teams participating from around the world. This year's 2023.1 competition launched February 12th, lasted until February 19th and this year's theme was "an end is a new beginning".

The team members would like to thank Stelios Grigorakis, an undergraduate student of the School of ECE, who, after completing the game, devoted valuable time to the debugging process as the team is interested in continuing the development of the game.
