Speciality: 3D Graphics, Virtual Reality, Simulation Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Perception-based Computer Graphics

Short CV: Dr Katerina Mania completed a B.Sc. in Mathematics at the University of Crete, Greece, an M.Sc. in Advanced Computing (Global Computing and Multimedia) and a Ph.D in Computer Science at the Univeristy of Bristol, UK, Department of Computer Science. Her Ph.D studies were fully funded by Hewlett Packard Laboratories. Prior to her Ph.D, she was a full-time researcher and consultant at Hewlett Packard Laboratories in Bristol, UK working on architectural visualisation, 3D user interfaces and 3D graphics for the web, from 1996 till 1998. After completion of her Ph.D in 2001 she was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Informatics, University of Sussex, UK, achieving tenure in 2004. She was on academic study leave in 2003 at NASA Ames Research Centre, USA (Advanced Displays and Spatial Perception Laboratory), collaborating on user latency detection and adaptation in Virtual Environments with Dr Stephen Ellis, Dr Bernard Adelstein and Mr Michael Hill. This collaboration resulted in two research publications and co-presenting four tutorials at major international conferences such as IEEE Virtual Reality and ACM Siggraph. She is appointed as a Professor at the Technical University of Crete, Greece,School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, co-ordinator of research team SURREAL (http://surreal.tuc.gr)

She has chaired or co-chaired various academic programs of conferences such as ACM Siggraph, Eurographics 2008, ACM Multimodal Interfaces and has served as a member of conference program committees. She is currently serving as one of the Associate Editors for ACM Transactions on Applied Perception and Presence Teleoperators and Virtual Environments (MIT Press).
