The School of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Technical University of Crete (TUC) was founded towards the end of the 1980’s and received its first incoming class of 30 freshmen in 1990. Since then the School has developed substantially. The incoming freshman class of recent years exceeds 100 students per year, and there are 25 full-time faculty members (21 serving and 4 under appointment).

The curriculum of the ECE School of TUC aims at a high quality theoretical education and hands-on training of engineers, on modern technology subjects such as electronics, control systems, computer science and telecommunications. The goal is for the students to develop the theoretical background which will allow them to understand the fundamentals of the above technologies in depth so that they will be able to effectively cope with the demands of these rapidly changing fields.

The School is governed by its General Assembly, the Dean's Council and the Dean. The School is organized in four Divisions: Electronics and Computer Architecture, Computer Science, Control Systems, and Telecommunications.

The TUC Akrotiri Campus is on 700 acres of land, 7km NE of the town of Chania, near the village of Kounoupidiana. The School Registrar’s office, the School Administration building and the faculty and staff offices are at the School building clusters in the Akrotiri campus, where also the classes and laboratories are held.
