The oral examinations for the accreditation of the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC II), organized by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), were held on May 19 and 20, 2026, for the second consecutive year in Greece, at the premises of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Technical University of Crete. These examinations are conducted online at the same time in nine (9) examination centers across Europe, one of which was, for the second time in the 35-year history of the Diploma, in Greece, in Chania (Chania Exam Center).
Thirty (30) examiners from all over Europe (United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy) and eight (8) examiners from Greece were present at the Technical University of Crete. The examinees were from Europe, the Middle East, India, Australia, the USA, and Canada. This is a high-level Diploma, validated by UEMS/CESMA. The Director of the examination center was Ms. Alexandra Pentheroudaki, Director of the ICU National Health System of the General Hospital of Chania, EDIC Subcommittee invited expert of ESICM, National Representative for Greece. The exam was co-organized by Professor George Karystinos, Dean of the School of ECE, Technical University of Crete.
The exams were conducted in absolute synchronization with the other exam centers in Europe with excellent results and in the presence of the Chair Elect of the EDIC Subcommittee, Rene Schmidt.
The examiners, the Director of the center, Ms. Pentheroudaki, and the Chair Elect of the EDIC Subcommittee, Rene Schmidt, expressed their satisfaction for the excellent organization and technical support from the Technical University, as well as for the enthusiasm of the staff of the Digital Governance Unit of the Technical University of Crete who contributed (I.
