The School of ECE hosts, for the first time in Greece, the exam for the European Diploma of Intensive Care Medicine

EDIC II, the oral part of the exam for the accreditation of the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC), which is aiming at evaluating knowledge-based competencies in intensive care medicine and is organized by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), was held on May 20-21, 2025, for the first time in Greece, at the premises of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Technical University of Crete. The assessment is offered solely as an online examination and held at the same time in eight (8) examination centers throughout Europe, one of which was, for the first time in the 35-year history of the Diploma, in Greece, in Chania (Chania Exam Center).

Twenty seven (27) examiners from all over Europe (United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy, Turkey) and eight (8) examiners from Greece were present at the Technical University of Crete. The candidates were from Europe, the Middle East, India, Australia, the USA, and Canada. This is a high-standard examination, validated by UEMS/CESMA. The Director of the examination center was Mrs. Alexandra Pentheroudaki (MD/MSc/EDIC), Senior Consultant of the ICU unit of the General Hospital of Chania and member of the EDIC Subcommittee of ESICM. The exam was co-organized by Professor George Karystinos, Dean of the School of ECE, Technical University of Crete.

The assessment was held in absolute synchronization with the other examination centers in Europe, with excellent results.

The examiners, the Director of the center Mrs. Pentheroudaki, ESICM Coordinator Patricia Peralta and UCAN representative Winfried Kurtz expressed their satisfaction for the excellent organization and technical support from the Technical University of Crete, as well as for the enthusiasm of the staff of the Digital Governance Unit of the Technical University of Crete who contributed (I. Atzarakis, P. Kontogiannis, S. Koulouridakis, E. Maragoudakis, P. Polydoros, A. Stamatakis).
