ECE School Professor Dionissios Hristopulos has been awarded the 2024 Georges Matheron Lectureship, a prestigious honor established by the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) in 2005.
This award recognizes outstanding scientific contributions in the field of spatial statistics or mathematical morphology, paying tribute to Professor Georges Matheron, whose pioneering theoretical and methodological work in modeling, analysis, and interpretation of spatial data has had a lasting impact across decades of practical applications in mining, petroleum exploration, environmental modeling, and other scientific domains, including research on random sets that has been instrumental in advancing image analysis and stereology.
The award will be presented at the 23rd IAMG Annual Conference, which will take place in October in Zhuhai, China. At the event, the Professor Hristopulos will deliver a plenary lecture titled “From Particles to Patterns: An Odyssey from Physics to Geostatistics and Beyond.”
