 a685ab87c5a429fbc\nAbstract\n Antenn
a engineering has been dynamically o
 riented towards the remote accessibi
lity of the implantable medical devi
 ces (IMDs). Wireless medical telemet
ry may nurture an improved life qual
ity and diminish the concern of an u
rgent medical disorder via the dista
 nt patient state supervision. Miniat
ure antennas can be integrated into
IMDs to communicate with an external
  control base station and wirelessly
  transmit vital signs (e.g., cardiac
beat, blood pressure, and body temp
erature). The issue of the power sup
ply, also, arises due to the long-te
rm use of the implantable apparatuse
 s. Wireless power transfer may negat
e the need of the repeated surgeries
  and eliminate potential health issu
 es.\n Furthermore, within the framew
 ork of wireless body-area networks,
wearable antennas can be applied to
 improve the personal and professiona
l life routine in applications such
 as health monitoring, military, and
 rescue services. On-body and off-bod
y wireless channels can be establish
 ed allowing communication between a
 wearable antenna and body-mounted ap
paratus or between the antenna and e
 xternal nodes, respectively. Upon th
e enhancement of wearable system per
 formance, antenna reconfigurable pro
perties seem to be beneficial.\n Abo
ut the speaker\n Sofia Bakogianni re
ceived the Diploma degree in electri
cal and computer engineering from th
e National Technical University of A
thens, Athens, Greece, in 2007, the
 M.Sc. degree in microelectronics-opt
 oelectronics from the University of
Crete, Heraklion, Greece, in 2010, a
nd the Ph.D. degree in electrical an
d computer science from the Universi
ty of Patras, Patras, Greece, in 201
 8. She has authored or co-authored m
ore than 20 journal and conference p
 apers. Her research interests includ
e antenna theory and design, implant
 able antennas, wearable antennas, RF
 /microwave circuits, wireless power
 transfer, and electromagnetics. She
was a recipient of National Award a
nd Scholarships. She serves as a rev
iewer at the IEEE Transactions on An
